Materials need to be appropisate to the provision of low cost, durability, availability and simplicity of construction. End users and beneficiaries may have to be "educated" to the suitability of structures erected using alternative technologies. Where traditional methods of construction are appropriate (e.g. thatched kitchen), end-users must oe encouraged to construct such buildings using materials locally procured.
