DEPARTMENT OF RURAL HOUSING AND SOCIAL AMENITIES

Introduction

The Department is as old as its Ministry, which was created in April 2005.

Vision

To be the outer-ego of the Ministry in the Interfacing and linking with Rural Communities and stakeholders.

Mission

To mobilise rural communities and stakeholders for sustainable housing and social amenities development in Rural Zimbabwe.

Functions

In order to contribute to the fulfillment of the Ministry's mandate, the Department performs the following portfolio responsibilities.

  • Formulate rural housing and Social amenities policies.
  • Implement rural housing and Social amenities policies
  • Identify rural housing and Social amenities needs of the communal resettled communities.
  • Coordinate and mobilize rural communities for the provision and maintenance of social amenities in rural areas.
  • Mobilise resources for the implementation of rural housing and social amenities programs in rural areas.
  • Develop and implement strategies that ensure implementation of rural housing and social amenities programmes.
  • Develop repayment methods that ensure the survival of Rural Housing and Social amenities Development funds.
  • Create linkages with other interested stakeholders in promoting housing and social amenities programmes.

By executing the above functions, the Department endeavors to:

  • Stabilise the rural labour force and curb its drift to urban areas.
  • Make the rural sector more productive by reducing disparities in the productive labour in the urban and rural sectors.
  • Promote emergence of agriculturally based enterprises that fully exploit the country's natural resources.
